LT. GOVERNOR BILLY NUNGESSER AND LOUISIANA OFFICE OF TOURISM HEAD ON MISSION TO INDIA AND DUBAI

BATON ROUGE, La. – Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser and the Louisiana Office of Tourism are heading on a mission to Mumbai, India, to expand promotion of Louisiana as a travel destination. It’s the first time the Louisiana Office of Tourism has conducted a mission into this emerging market. The mission is part of a $300,000 U.S. Commerce Department grant to promote the state in India, Italy, and Spain to increase awareness, interest, and visitation through educating tour operators and travel media about Louisiana.

“We are excited to be able to continue using this federal grant to extend the reach of our promotion of Louisiana. In recent years, we have noticed an uptick in the number of international travelers and those visiting Louisiana. International visitors to Louisiana tend to stay longer and spend more money. This is a chance for us to ensure more of the world knows Louisiana is a place where you can Feed Your Soul,” said Lieutenant Governor Billy Nungesser.

The Louisiana delegation is set to meet with the U.S. Consulate and U.S. Commercial Service for a presentation by the state’s tourism representatives in India, Sartha Global. Additional events throughout the week include several trade show opportunities to meet face-to-face with tour operators, travel agents, and travel journalists from around India in both Mumbai and New Delhi to promote travel to Louisiana.

Following trade shows in India, Lt. Governor Nungesser will travel to Dubai where he will meet with U.S. Consul General Meghan Gregonis and Emirates Airlines. Additionally, he will participate in a roundtable discussion with the American Chamber of Commerce and its Board of Directors, along with Etihad Airways, and the Abu Dhabi Residents Office to discuss tourism, trade, and ports. After the ports of New York and New Jersey, more ships depart of the Port of New Orleans for the United Arab Emirates (UAE) than any other port in the United States. Lt. Governor Nungesser will also meet with officials at DP World UAE, the premier business hub of the Middle East. DP World UAE is home to the flagship Jebel Ali Port, a maritime commercial gateway and hub for more than 3.5 billion people. DP World UAE offers integrated solutions to global companies doing business across the region.
